Volunteering in your Community

Living in a small community, I find it important to volunteer, and give back.

Volunteering can be tricky business, as most of us are asked to volunteer our professional trade. There is a fine line that one must know your self worth. Do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of as a volunteer to that which you get paid for.

This in it’s self may be the hardest thing to do, and only you know where that line is.

Being involved in your community can be rewarding for the community as well as for yourself and family.

The most important factor is to enjoy yourself, while volunteering at something you have never done before, or your a seasoned volunteer at your volunteered task, it’s important not to loose sight of the purpose and intent.

I enjoy volunteering, and have learned that it’s easy to get stuck in the habit of saying yes, make sure you create limits and boundaries as to how much you volunteer. I had to learn to not be afraid to say, “No thank you.”

If you are a volunteer coordinator, the most powerful things you can say to a volunteer, is “Thank you”, and “I appreciate your time”. These are huge words of appreciation and encouragement, and are best said when they are deserving.

I think I will go volunteer some of my time at the library!!
